Can I run Facebook ads with a domain name not available on Facebook?

just a beginner! trying to decide on my domain name.

when i try to find one namechk shows its available on shopify but not on facebook. if i buy it, will i still be able to run ads on facebook?

it is not necessary to buy a domain on Shopify

Doing it as its in the course. will it matter if namechk shows domain is not on facebook when running facebook ads for my store?

Hi @gaurav09 ,

Nick here from Shopify.

Do you mean that there’s been another business page named “namechk” on Facebook already? If that is what your business is called and you can buy the domain for it, I would personally still go with the domain and find a workaround for the Facebook page situation. While it’s not ideal, having the domain aspect locked down is more important I feel. Have you thought about using Instagram, TikTok or any other type of social media and is the name available there?

You should still be able to run ads, depending on whatever your page is called, this wouldn’t be an issue. You can run ads based on several different goals and in the ad setup you can apply the domain you want or have connected to your Facebook page/ ad account. There are a couple of Facebook business guides you might find useful for this:

You can then see how to connect your Shopify and Facebook pages from the guide below:

Also, in case you needed some help with setting up your domain name on your store, you can see the guide for how to add a custom domain to your store here.

I hope this helps and answers your question. If not, be sure to let me know and elaborate and we can look into it again. How have you found Shopify so far? What are you selling?

Hi Nick,

I really appreciate that you approached me. I think there is some
misunderstanding as my business’s name is Romeo kitchens (trying to sell
kitchen tools) and its domain is highfivecooking.com . I am very new to
this and just following the steps in dropshipping 101 course. Karen from
shopify helped me resolve the question about running ads on facebook page
but i have some thing else to ask now.

So i am trying to imports products and i have three questions:
!. When i enter them either way some of them show a different price and
there links on aliexpress still shows the price i noted while
product research.
2. Prices are too high for a few products that creates a delimma even if
that kinda product is worth the price being calcluted by me as per guided
in course..
3. How do i do market research.

I will be really greatful to receive your help. Please mention if there is
a way to get a mentor as it will be much faster for me to open a store and
start making sales.

Hi @gaurav09 ,

Glad to hear you got the name aspect sorted out and shoutout to Karen for helping you!

Can I ask how you are importing the products to your store? Is it via a CSV file or are you doing it manually? I’m wondering could the price difference be currency related? Let me know if the currency is the same as that could be the discrepency.

1.) With regards to importing products there are some guides Shopify has for this:

2.) You can adjust the prices for your store’s products should you wish. I can’t tell you what to charge for your products as I wouldn’t be educated or know the market for it. You can see how to set the sale price for your products here.

3.) To do market research, you should read up and research the industry and products you’re selling. The content team at Shopify wrote a great blog on how to conduct Market Research which could be worth your while reading.

Finding a mentor for business is different for all different types of industries. A mentor can be as simple as someone doing help videos for you, you don’t always have to have met them in person. I found a good third party guide and steps for this to give you some ideas for in person mentoring too!

Hi Nick,

Thanks for all the helpful answers. I have read the links you mentioned to me and now i have the platforms where i can look for trustable mentors. As i want to learn faster i am spending more time on finding a mentor and in the meanwhile i will keep grabbing the information i can.

Thanks alot for your help.
