Hello, does anyone have an experience selling services on Shopify? We use Shopify for our boutique, but now we are starting a tanning/red light therapy services business. We were wondering if Shopify can sell services/memberships. Our current software we have with our salon is not able to set up memberships (the recurring billing is not actually billing.) I would love some advice and if anyone knows other services if Shopify doesn’t work best. Thank you!

That is an excellent question!
You don’t need to be actively selling products to use Shopify. Many Shopify users like yourself don’t use the platform to sell products. As long as you are operating in line with our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, you can use Shopify for your business.
You can create a membership style of business for your company by using a third party app like Membership Subscription Order or Bold Memberships. Both these apps enable you to create multilevel recurring membership programs for your customers to join.
I recommend taking advantage of the free trial offered on both these apps. You can install them on your store and use the time to determine which one works best for your needs. Uninstalling the app before the trial ends ensures you won’t be charged for it. If you have any questions about the set-up or functionality of either of them, please reach out to the app developer directly. They’ll be your best resource to provide support.
Remember that the services you offer are products, just not in the traditional, tangible sense. Instead of selling physical items, you are selling your services to people who need them. There are many stories from merchants selling services on Shopify. Feel free to check them on this link.

Shopify is a platform that suits selling both physical products and services. If your main concern at the moment relates recurring payments, you can easily deal with it using any of the subscription apps represented in the Shopify app store. My team usually works with Bold (https://apps.shopify.com/bold-subscriptions) and Recharge (https://apps.shopify.com/subscription-payments). They are very good.
