Can I send physical gifts to my online store customers?

Hi everyone, is it possible to send a gift to a customer who bought through my Shopify store? I would like to store their address in my database once they buy from me. They’ve already confirmed that they’re ok with me sending them marketing material via email.

Is it illegal to send a gift via snail mail to their shipping address to build rapport?

That’s a great question! Thanks for asking.

While I would not be able to speak to the legality of the situation, I can speak from a customer service perspective.

Once a customer makes a purchase in your store, their information is automatically stored in your Customers tab within the Shopify Admin. Additionally, within their profile you will see if they accept marketing or not via the checkbox on the right.

I would err on the side of caution with customers who do not accept marketing. However if a customer does accept marketing, sending them gifts seems like a fantastic way to build a relationship. I would recommend including a note within the gift regarding the gesture and how they can opt out.
