I am setting up online store through shopify and Im from Singapore, it says that I need a UEN to setup shopify payment. Is that actually required? And what are the requirements to setup an international online store through shopify when I am in Singapore
Topic summary
Two Singapore-based users are attempting to set up Shopify stores but are blocked by the requirement for a UEN (Unique Entity Number) to enable Shopify Payments.
Key Issue:
- UEN is typically required for business registration in Singapore
- One user is running a small home business using a personal account and lacks a UEN
- Neither user has confirmed whether UEN is absolutely mandatory or if alternatives exist
Current Status:
- The original question remains unresolved
- A third participant suggested using Stripe as an alternative payment gateway, which supports multiple payment methods and multi-currency transactions
- No official confirmation on whether Shopify Payments can be activated without UEN in Singapore

Hi was there any resolution on this? I am also trying to set up a store in Singapore, but I do not have a UEN number for the shopify payment as I am doing this as a small home business using my personal account.

If you have a Stripe account and with this https://lnkd.in/diJN5YcB solution you can accept payments with all payment methods supported by your Stripe account and it also supports multi-currency.
