Can I disable my customized SMS notifications? since custom SMS notifications will no longer possible unless I purchase an App instead I’d like to use email only and not use default SMS.

When a customer places an order using your store’s checkout, they enter an email address by default. If you allow customers to check out using their phone number, then they can choose to enter either an email address or a phone number. Customers who choose to enter a phone number receive their order confirmation and shipping updates by SMS to their mobile phone.
If you would like to use email notification only so you have to make customers can only check out using email. To achieve that, please follow the steps below:

From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

In the Customer contact method, select email.

Click Save.

I have the same problem. My current SMS is heavily modified and it fits the purpose of our customers. I can’t believe that Shopify just made a decision and now I have to scramble to find a new SMS solution. The default text doesn’t make any sense to our customers.
Secondly, we have 25% of our customers uses mobile number to checkout because of the demographic that we serve. We can’t just use email for checkout.
The question is, how can we allow mobile number checkout and stop default Shopify SMS text to be sent to customers?
And we only have 23 days to solve this.

You can consider using third-party apps on the Shopify apps store to resolve this problem.
The same problem for me. Shopify decided to destroy us. When we chose it and when we made people order only by mobile phone instead of email, we did not have in mind that one day they would decide to remove it. We made a long-term collaboration with them which they obviously do not respect. Default SMS not only don’t make any sense, they are also NOT even available for most languages. And the support is unbelievably poor, they suggest PAYING for extra apps that we may not even be able to use for all countries. How crazy is that?
I do not think we should let that happen. Next time they may announce a new disaster.
