hello, I bought a out of sand box turbo theme less than 3 years ago… we were unable to load color swatches and it came to our attention that the theme needed to be updated. We contacted out of sandbox and Shopify and got pushed back and forth. This is the message they sent… and then my questions are below.
When updating your theme to version 6.1.1, all content, such as home page sections, will need to be rebuilt.
Vintage themes refer to all theme versions preceding Online Store 2.0 compatibility. Online store 2.0 empowers merchants with expanded customization tools and page-specific enhancements. To take advantage of all Online Store 2.0 has to offer, a compatible theme version must be in use.
This is a one-time process that Shopify requires to align with new templating standards and maintain theme performance. Due to the change in code structure, app integration, and SEO set up, for now, you will have to update the theme manually. This means manually adding all the sections on your old theme which also includes images, texts, and all other non-admin stuff.
This is a great opportunity to start fresh and quickly remove legacy code and files! The move to Online Store 2.0 will also change how many apps are installed into themes. Some apps might not be compatible with Online Store 2.0 themes. We recommend referring to your app’s documentation or contacting the app developer if you are not sure or have questions about your third-party apps.
If you have customizations done on your version 6.1.1 that you would like to be transferred to the latest version, you can have your developer update it for you. If you do not have one, we recommend working with our preferred Shopify Experts at Storetasker as they know our themes well.
IS THERE IS A WAY TO DO THIS WITHOUT HAVING TO DO IT MANUALLY? CAN WE USE THE NEW THEME WITH OUT REBUILDING OUR ENTIRE SITE MANUALLY? OR IS IT EASIER TO PORT OVER TO A SHOPIFY THEME THAT WILL NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE? WE ARE OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FOR THE MOST COST EFFICIENT WAY BEING THAT WE JUST PAY A DEVELOPER LESS THAN 3 YEARS AGO TO CREATE THIS SITE.
