Can I use my SSN for account setup as a minor?

My mom and I are trying to set up my account for my business but I am currently still a minor. To set up payments would we be able to use my ssn? I turn 18 in a couple months and I will take over or do we have to use her ssn for the moment?

Hi, @Thebeautypit .

Thank you for reaching out, and welcome to Shopify!

You need to be 18 to start a business on Shopify. However, your parent can start one on your behalf. Once you turn 18, you can transfer the store’s ownership to you!

Please let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products are you hoping to sell? I want to recommend this really great resource on getting started at Shopify. It includes a ton of information on all things Shopify, which is really helpful when first starting out!

Hello Emily! I have a question regarding my account setup. If I want to transfer ownership to my mom, do I simply need to create a Shopify account for her and transfer ownership if my store is already set up?

Hi, @Caufebri .

Thank you for reaching out!

To transfer ownership to your mom, log into your admin > Settings > Users and Permissions, then click transfer ownership. You will enter your mom’s information, including email, and then click transfer store ownership. Then she will need to accept the ownership transfer via email and log in with her email and the password you assigned.

Please let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products do you sell?

Hello Emily,

Is the above solution also true for an eight year old’s business? My daughter makes beautiful bracelets and want to sell them online. Can I create a store on Shopify on her behalf, help fulfill the orders and then transfer the ownership to her once she attains the age of 18?

Appreciate your inputs!
