Our company is both the manufacturer and distributor of the products in our store. Every product in our store consists of 2 or 3 underlying parts.
It seems the standard Shopify inventory feature only recognises the ‘top level’ product inventory, which does not work for us because our products are ‘assembly-to-order’. So we are looking for a way to track the inventory of those underlying parts.
An idea that we had was to use the product metafields for this purpose. Every product in the store has been assigned the corresponding underlying parts.
Any suggestions about an app that could track inventory levels using metafields? Or any other suggestions?
I have a solution to suggest that involves using the Easify Product Options app to address your problem effectively. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set it up :
Begin by creating your “top-level” product.
Create individual products for the underlying parts and specify their respective quantities.
Add an option to represent your 3 parts, using the Buttons option type or another suitable display type. Assign the relevant products to option values (using the Add-on Product feature).
As a result of this setup, when customers add the “top-level” product to their cart, all the underlying parts will also be added automatically, and the inventories of these parts will be adjusted accordingly.
