Can MPESA be directly linked as a payment provider?

Hi @BingeDrinks

Welcome to the Shopify Community.

I can see that you were wondering about using MPESA as a payment provider on your Shopify store, as you are located in Kenya. I would be happy to provide some context.

When selecting a payment provider on Shopify, the selection you can choose from will depend on the location of your store. You mentioned that your store was in Kenya - you can refer to this link here and input Kenya as the region, and it will show you a full list of all available payment providers you can choose from for your store.

Here is a screenshot for visibility:

I do not see MPESA listed here as an option and generally, unless you see it listed either here or in your Shopify admin as a payment gateway choice, you will not be able to use it on your store. You will need to choose one of the available payment gateways in order to accept payments on your store in Kenya.

You could contact the MPESA payment provider directly to inquire about using their services, and they may be able to offer further insight and possible workarounds for accepting payments on your Shopify store - however as they are third-party and completely external to us, we would not be in a position to assist with setting it up. I did find this article online that might help - Shopify M-Pesa Integration: How to Accept M-Pesa on Your Shopify Store. Please keep in mind, it is third-party, so we cannot confirm the safety or accuracy of any of the content within the article, and it’s best to always be cautious when following along with online guides like this.

Besides this payment gateway query, how is the rest of your store coming along? You mentioned that you were trying to launch the website - feel free to ask any further questions you have here, and I will do my best to help! This pre-launch checklist is very handy to keep on top of the various tasks to complete before going live.
