Hello! We recently put some gifs as main images for some products. Is it possible for those gifs to be moving only when the customer puts the mouse on the image? Youtube did this for their videos. Here is a link to the product catalogue: https://corellimotogear.com/collections/leather-jackets
Topic summary
A store owner wants product GIFs to animate only on mouse hover, similar to YouTube’s video thumbnail behavior. They’ve added GIFs as main product images and are seeking implementation guidance.
Proposed Solution:
- Display a static image by default
- Replace with animated GIF when mouse hovers over the product
Implementation Requirements:
- Custom JavaScript development needed
- Not available as a built-in feature
- Could be somewhat complex to implement
Status: One commenter offered to create this custom feature if the store owner is interested. The discussion remains open regarding whether they’ll proceed with the custom development.
Instead of having the gifs moving only when the customer puts the mouse on the image, how about having a still image in place, and then when the mouse is over the product, replace that image with a gif?
Would that work?
So how can we do that?
You would have to create that as a custom feature, as it would take some knowledge of JavaScript to get that to work, and could get a little complicated.
If you’re interested, I can create that feature for you guys.
