Can Shopify streamline my art to apparel business model?

I’m a small business producing art that I have printed on shirts and sell. I’m looking to greatly expand and require a less man-in-the-loop business model.

Here is how it works for me today. I produce a Tiff or JPG high resolution image (no vector graphics yet) for ink sublimation (or DTG) from a local printer - as well as screen printing. I take order via email, person-to-person, or via text messages. Sometimes processing payment via Facebook Pay or Paypal, other times with cash or a check. I do not have a minimum order quantity requirement from my customers. I usually batch up my orders and not pass them on to the printer one-at-a-time. When shirts are ready, I pick them and eitherdeliver locally or mail them to the customer.

I’d like to offer a website with my private brand displayed. The site should show options and accept orders with payment processing (a portion of the payment flowing to me), process the order into printed shirts then ship to the customer. What part of this can I do with Shopify? I assume Shopify connects me with printer and tools for me to build order processing and marketing presence?

Hi RDavid, based on your business model, have you considered using Printful? They are a great third-party print company that integrates with Shopify. Upon receiving an order they will fulfill and ship the order to your customers. You collect a percentage based on what you decide during setup. Initially you would need to set up your designs on the products that you want to sell. Such as apparel, home decor, accessories, etc.

Hope this helps.
