Hi, I have been on Shopify for a while but new with SEO. If I have multiple product pages with similar products, for example maxi dress and skirt, can the same keywords appear on both product pages? Should I include plus size on both pages or do I include plus size on one product page and custom made on the other product pages?
For keywords you should the synonyms..but most searched one’s are the option for this you can use google keywords search that will give you an idea what people searches most..yes you can apply the formula you are discussing but its best to lets the words be identical but the picture makes difference

Hello!
One option to improve your SEO is build an informative FAQ section with relatable keywords and backlinks to different content on your page. Here you will find some tips for building an effective FAQ page. Hope this helps a bit!
Yes. You can have the same LSI keywords for similar products but I would have one main or focus keyword for each page. For example, you mentioned how one was a maxi dress and the other a maxi skirt. Maxi dress could be the focus keyword for one product while maxi skirt for the other.
LSI keywords are search terms related to the main keyword you are targeting. So you could use LSI keywords like casual, flowy, plus size, etc.
A really good free tool you could use is Key Search.
Keep in mind this is a basic explanation. You really should do or have an SEO expert conduct keyword research for you.
Hi, They’re not the same “maxi dress and skirt” if your brand is “maxi”. You can optimize your descriptions instead and add variants. Thanks
Yes, you can use the same keywords (like “plus size”) on multiple pages, but each page must have a unique primary focus.
Do:
-
Use “plus size maxi dress” as the main phrase on your dress page
-
Use “plus size skirt” as the main phrase on your skirt page
-
Include “plus size” naturally in both descriptions
Don’t:
-
Use the exact same title/description for both pages
-
Make pages compete by targeting identical phrases
Each page should be the best result for its specific product, not a generic category.
Yes, it’s totally fine if some of your keywords overlap, especially when the products are similar. Google understands that related products can share relevant terms. The key is to make sure each page has something unique like different descriptions, titles, or details, so they don’t compete with each other.
You can include “plus size” on both pages if it genuinely applies to both products, and use “custom made” where it fits best. Just avoid stuffing the same keywords everywhere; focus on making each page helpful and specific to that exact product.
Hi @Obioma_Fashion,
This is Sophia from Tapita AI SEO & Speed Optimizer
Our recommendation is based on both SEO best practices and how Tapita’s Keyword Research features work.
How to apply this to your similar products (maxi dress + skirt):
- You can use some of the same keywords on multiple pages, especially if they reflect real search intent (e.g. “plus size”). Since Tapita lets you pull up search volume and competition data, you can see whether “plus size maxi dress” and “plus size skirt” both have enough demand to justify using them.
- However, you should still give each product its own primary / main keyword focus that makes sense for that product page (e.g. “plus size maxi dress” for the dress, “custom made skirt” for the skirt). That way you avoid duplication or internal competition between your own pages.
- Use overlapping keywords (like “plus size,” or “women’s clothing”) only as secondary / supporting keywords, and make sure the rest of the page (title tag, product description, URL, meta describer, etc.) is tailored to the unique product. This aligns with general on‑page SEO best practices for stores like Shopify.
In short: overlap in keywords is okay as long as each page has a clear, unique focus and unique content for both users and search engines.
Happy to help!
Yes, you can use some overlapping keywords on multiple product pages, but you need to avoid full duplication to prevent SEO cannibalization. Here’s a simple approach:
Maxi Dress Page: Use keywords like maxi dress, plus size maxi dress, custom made maxi dress.
Skirt Page: Use keywords like skirt, plus size skirt, custom made skirt.
Tips:
Include “plus size” on all relevant pages, but pair it with the specific product type.
Avoid using the exact same meta title and description across pages.
Focus on unique features of each product for better differentiation.
This way, you target the same theme (plus size) while keeping each page unique for search engines.
Hi @Obioma_Fashion ,
Yes - it is completely normal (and often necessary) for similar products to share some of the same keywords. Google does not penalize you for having overlapping keywords across related products.
What Google does care about is that each product page provides unique value and is not just a copy of another page.
When It’s OK to Use the Same Keywords
You can repeat general keywords across multiple products, for example:
- “maxi dress”
- “skirt”
- “plus size”
- “summer wear”
- “women’s fashion”
These are category-level or attribute-level terms - so it’s expected that they appear on multiple pages.
Google understands that your store sells related items and will not consider this keyword overlap as duplication.
When products are related, it’s normal for certain keywords to overlap, but it’s still important to give each page its own focus so they don’t compete with each other. If both items are similar (like a maxi dress and a skirt), you can absolutely use broad terms on both pages, but make sure each page also includes keywords that reflect its unique details, materials, style, or use case.
For terms like “plus size,” it should be included on any product truly available in those sizes. Google won’t penalize you for repeating factual attributes across pages. What you want to avoid is making the two pages feel identical—different descriptions, unique angles, and specific keywords help search engines understand each product clearly.
If another product is custom-made, then lean into that keyword on that page. Think of it as: shared keywords for common attributes, unique keywords for what makes each product stand out.
This usually leads to stronger rankings and better user experience.
Hey @Obioma_Fashion! Yes, you absolutely can use the same keywords on different product pages, especially when the products are related. Google expects similar items—like a maxi dress and a skirt—to share overlapping search terms, and this will not hurt your SEO. What matters more is that each product page still has its own unique angle and description, rather than identical content. ![]()
To add onto that, another practical approach is to monitor how each page performs after you make these keyword adjustments. Sometimes two related products start attracting slightly different search queries even if they share some terms. When that happens, you can refine the content further by expanding the parts of each description that match what users are actually searching for.
It also helps to keep internal linking in mind. Linking similar products to each other with descriptive anchor text can reinforce the relationship without causing keyword conflicts. For example, if one page focuses more on the custom-made aspect and another on size availability, linking between them gives search engines clearer context about how the items fit into your overall product range.
Small tweaks like this usually make the separation between pages even stronger while keeping the user journey smooth.
