Can the same sub-category name be used for different main categories?

Hi All,

Our designer who is setting up our store has advised me that you can’t have sub-categories/collections that are separated from each other with the same name?

For example

Microsoft (main category)

Xbox (sub category)

Consoles (further sub category that will also be available under another format)

Games (further sub category that will also be available under another format)

Accessories (further sub category that will also be available under another format)

Xbox 360 etc and so on…

He has said that each 'sub category i.e. games will show all games under every platform rather than showing the games for the platform it is associated with?

Could someone please help me here?

Thank you in advance

@GamezOver Your designer has right, Shopify doesn’t allow to create nested categories (there is only one level of categories/collections).

That what you can do is to create very specific 1st level collections:

  • Xbox

  • Xbox games

  • Xbox accessories

  • PS4

  • PS4 games

  • PS4 accessories

  • All consoles

  • All games

  • All accessories

Hello,

I don’t think this is true. You may create as many as collections you want with the same names, it will automatically take different url followed by the number series.

For example :

  • I have created 3 collections named “Home page”.

  • First one is having url link “home-page”

  • Second one is having name “home-page-1” and so on for all other same named collections. Check below pictures.

  • You may change url link from “Search engine listing > Edit” to add your main category name instead of “1”, “2” at the end of the url.
