Can user groups receive specific brand discounts?

Is it possible to create a user group and then offer different discounts when they purchase particular brands?

For example, if they purchase any product of Brand A they get 20% off, Brand B 40%, etc. All while not allowing any discount to those who are not within that user group?

Hi @j2studio ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with setting up discount codes for specific branded products and customers.

Prior to creating the discount code, you will want to ensure Manual Collections are created to separate products by brand (i.e Brand A, Brand B, etc). These collections do not have to be made available to the online store, or any sales channel but will need to be active.

To create a manual collection, you can:

  • Head to Products > Collections, from the Shopify admin.

  • Click Create collection.

  • Enter a title and description for the collection.

  • In the Collection type section, click Manual.

  • Click Save.

  • In the Products section, search for products or click Browse, and then add the products that you want to have in the collection.

  • Click Save.

Once all collections have been created, you will then need to create customer segments to organize your customers into groups. To create a customer segment, I recommend checking out our Managing Customer Segments helpdoc for detailed instructions on how to successfully complete this. It outlines however, you can:

  • Head into the Customers section, of the Shopify admin.

  • Click All customers.

  • Click Create segment. The segment list displays a segment named New segment that has Draft beside it.

  • Click the Filters icon, and then do either of the following:

    • To select a Shopify-based filter name, click Shopify.
    • To select a metafield-based filter name, click Metafields.
  • Click a filter name. The filter name is displayed in the editor.

  • Click an operator.

  • Click a value.

  • To add another filter, click a connector, and then click another filter name, operator, and value.

  • To test your segment, click Apply filter. The customers who match the criteria are listed below the editor. The number of customers who match the criteria is displayed above the editor.

  • Review the list of customers to verify that your customer segment works as expected, and then make any necessary changes.

  • Click Save, and then enter a name for the segment.

  • Click Save.

Once successfully completed, you can then move onto creating the discount code. I recommend checking out our Discount Documentation for more information on the various types of discount codes and how to create them.

To create a percentage discount for a specific customer segment (i.e customer group), you can:

  • Heading to the Discounts section of the Shopify admin.

  • Click Create discount, and then click Discount code.

  • In the Discount code section, do either of the following:

    • Enter a name for the new discount code, for example, 15offnecklaces.
    • Click Generate code.
  • In the Types section, select Percentage and enter the value (i.e 20%).

  • In the Applies to section, select Specific Collections and check the appropriate collection(s) that were created for the brand.

  • In the Customer eligibility section, select Specific Customer Segments and locate the group of customers this would apply for.

  • Click Save Discount.

This will need to be repeated for each brand and customer group you’d like a discount code created for. Our Percentage or Fixed Amount Discount Documentation touches on this further.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
