Can variants in one listings have different delivery prices?

Topic summary

A seller needs to charge different shipping rates for variants within a single listing: £4.95 for physical printed products and free shipping for digital downloads. Currently, their delivery profiles show ‘doesn’t ship’ next to the product listings.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Create separate shipping profiles for each variant type, setting different rates for physical vs. digital options
  • Split into two separate listings (one for digital, one for physical) and cross-link them in descriptions
  • Use shipping apps like Advanced Shipping Rules or Parcelify to set variant-specific shipping rates
  • Uncheck ‘This is a physical product’ for the digital download variant in the product settings, which removes shipping requirements

The original poster has confirmed they already have variants set up (unframed print, framed print, digital download) but cannot locate the ‘This is a physical product’ checkbox. They’ve requested screenshots to help implement the shipping profile solution.

The discussion remains open as the seller awaits detailed implementation guidance.

Hi there,

my shop is nearly finished but I have found a new road block that I need some advice on please.

I sell printed products and digital downloads so one listing will feature both physical products and a download option.

If the customer chooses a digital download I need the delivery to be FREE, whilst a physical product will cost £4.95 to deliver.

Currently when i go into my saved delivery profiles it says ‘doesn’t ship’ next to the product listings i am trying to select.

Any pointers would be great. Thanks

Hello @vancouver_k

where you can select the variant and set the rates as you want

Problem:

You want to sell both a digital and a physical version of the same product, but need:

  • Digital = free delivery

  • Physical = £4.95 delivery

Best Solutions:

1. Create Two Products (Recommended):

  • One for Digital Download (no shipping)

  • One for Physical Product (£4.95 shipping)

  • Link them in the descriptions (“Want the digital version? Click here”)

2. Use a Shipping App (if you need one listing):

  • Use apps like Advanced Shipping Rules or Parcelify

  • These let you set shipping rates by variant

3. Deliver Digital Files:

  • Use Shopify’s free Digital Downloads app to send files automatically

hi there :slightly_smiling_face:

you can simply create a variant “Do you want to buy the physical product or the digital one”?

option 1 : physical

option 2 : digital

then you would update the digital variant to simply uncheck “this is a physical product” which will remove the shipping fee :slightly_smiling_face:

hi there,

screenshots would be great if you don’t mind. Thank you

Thanks for your reply. Where do I find “this is a physical product”?

I already have a variant where customers can select unframed print, framed print, digital download etc, but can’t see where to uncheck “this is a physical product”. Thanks for your help
