I’ve been active in this community for over 5 years now and one thing has always bugged me. There’s no proper place to request features.
We have 25+ boards here. There’s a board for Branding, one for Video Marketing, one for Motivation, even one for BFCM. But if someone wants to tell Shopify “hey, this thing is missing and we really need it,” there’s nowhere specific to post that. People end up dropping their feature requests in Shopify Discussion where they sit alongside general questions and random threads. Most of them just disappear. Nobody sees them. Nobody tracks them.
I’ve seen merchants and developers post genuinely useful suggestions over the years. Better metafield controls, improved Liquid filters, cart API improvements, checkout customization options. Real stuff that would move the platform forward. But those posts get lost between “how do I change my font” and “why is my store slow.” There’s no visibility, no upvote system, no way for anyone at Shopify to easily see what the community actually wants.
A dedicated “Request a Feature” board would change that. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Just a space where people can post a feature request, others can like or reply to show support, and the Shopify team can actually see what’s gaining traction. Even if a request doesn’t get implemented right away, just knowing it’s being seen in a proper place would make a huge difference.
Other platforms do this. WordPress has dedicated idea boards. Figma has a public feature request section. It works because it gives people a voice and gives the product team signal they can actually use.
@Jacqui @jasonh I know you both put a lot of work into keeping this community running and useful. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. A feature request board could give this community even more impact than it already has, and I think a lot of people here would agree.
Let’s hear it from the rest of you too. Would you use a dedicated feature request board? Or am I the only one who’s been wanting this?
