Can you emulate Lightspeed's custom field sets and product types in Shopify?

Currently we have 12 Lightspeed eCom shops and are looking to start a new shop in Shopify. If everything will work as expected, in the near future we want to migrate all these shops to Shopify, because we notice there are more and more limitations in Lightspeed and it doesn’t look like any more development (of feature requests) will be done.

In Lightspeed we are using ‘custom field sets’ and ‘product types’ and we would love to have the same options in Shopify, but I can’t figure out if it’s even possible.

We have multiple products with, for example, a list of pro’s and con’s, which contain the same content. We want to be able to easily add them to certain products, but if I look at the current options, I need to add one metafield for the pro’s and one for the con’s. The next step is to add the info to each product seperate, but it doesn’t seem to be possible to use a preset of content.

Is there any solution for this? Out of the box Shopify, or maybe with an app? I searched the community, but couldn’t really find an answer to this question, but I guess more people are having this issue. Especially when you’re migrating from Lightspeed to Shopify.

Hi @mmjjanssen

What you’re saying is correct and doable, however you can actually create a pre-defined set of content that you select as a dropdown within your Shopify metafields.

For example you can create a field called :“Pros” that includes a dropdown of “Light”/“Cost Effective”/“Quality Build” and you can then select one or many from the options above.

Let me know if that clears it up,

Charles

Hi @JHKCreate

Thanks for the tip; works like a charm! Couldn’t find this solution in the docs / forums.
