Canadian protein oats brand

Topic summary

A Canadian protein oats brand is seeking growth advice. The key recommendation emphasizes that CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) success requires either time or money, ideally both.

Core Strategy:

  • Build a loyal community with recurring sales (online and in-store)
  • Define a hyper-specific target audience
  • Establish clear value propositions and unique selling features

Product Differentiation Challenges:

  • Clean ingredients are now standard, making differentiation harder
  • Must excel in taste, nutrition, and competitive pricing
  • Online pricing can be higher than retail, but thresholds still apply

The discussion remains open-ended, with the brand representative offering foundational strategic guidance rather than specific tactical steps.

Any tips, suggestions, advice for a Canadian protein oats brand looking to continue growing. Thanks!

I will repeat this comment throughout the AMA today, but in CPG you either need time or money. If you have both, that’s better, but ultimately you need to build a community for your product. Once you have loyal support and recurring sales (online or in-store), you start to build on that. You’ll need to be hyper specific in terms of who you are selling to, what your value proposition is, and what your unique selling feature(s) is/are. Those are the seeds you plant and then you water them and let them grow. With respect to product, these days everyone is moving to cleaner ingredients, so it’s become much harder to differentiate on ingredients or product call-outs alone. You will need to ensure taste is incredible, the nutrition is there, and ideally, you hit the proper price point. Online sales can be priced higher than in-store, but there is still a threshold to consider.
