Seller in Winnipeg here, I have not sold one single item to the USA since Oct. 16th. Domestic sales are normal, overseas is normal, but USA just suddenly stopped and I’m really creeped out by it. 
Sep-Dec is normally the busiest time of year for me, and I sell on Etsy, Ebay and Ecrater as well. Yet no sales to USA for 2.5 weeks! I haven’t changed any settings, my shipping rates haven’t changed, and sales did just fine for all of Sep and early Oct (noticeably lower than previous years, but not terribly). Is it just me, am I unlucky somehow? How is everyone else doing??
Perhaps just a weird coincidence, but the 16th was only 2 days after Doug Ford ran his stupid Reagan ad across the USA. I mean, I dunno, I’m just stunned and really starting to sweat over this lack of sales. 
You’re definitely not alone several sellers have reported the same sudden drop in U.S. sales recently. It doesn’t seem related to your settings but more likely to a change in visibility, U.S. buyer behavior, or platform algorithms. Keep an eye on your U.S. traffic stats and shipping profiles, but it’s probably a temporary slowdown rather than something you did wrong.
Quick update April 2026:
Sales to the USA are still almost nil. What used to be about 75%-80% of my orders is now about 5%, if that. Canadian and overseas orders haven’t been affected, which makes it easy to calculate that my business is basically operating at about 20%.
I tried including duty rates in the shipping cost at first (padded the rates roughly, some orders would be overcharged & some under), then making duty a separate line item in the checkout. No effect. Even the tariff rate dropping to 10% a couple months ago hasn’t made a difference.
Thanks to our govt’s idiotic TDS and knee-jerk policy of “elbows up” (refusing to negotiate with the USA), many industries and thousands of businesses & employees are now suffering. The Bloc leader recently said it best (see below). Meanwhile my friends are angry at me because while they say “stop it, the economy is fine!” I am an inconvenient truth, so they are avoiding me now. Sadly, I know I am not alone.
Shopify, thank you for offering such a fantastic platform for small sellers like me. I’m hoping I can hold out because in 21 years of business this is the best looking & operating shop I’ve ever had. I don’t want to switch back to Etsy & Ebay only, but if things don’t improve with the USA by Oct, I may be rethinking a lot of things.
