Canceled order shows as unfulfilled

I had a customer request to cancel an order, which I did and the refund has gone through. The order still shows up as unfulfilled. How do I change that? It messes up the unfulfilled count.

Order status and fulfillment status are 2 separate things. Just archive it.

I have archived it. It still shows up as unfulfilled on my orders page.

Yes it’s still going to show on the default “all orders” filter. That’s normal.

either archive it or you can filter your orders
Status = Open

these are the two ways to do it

I have archived it, and it still shows as unfulfilled in the all orders tab. I get that this is normal behavior but I think it is rather annoying and should be changed.

Yeah they could add a fulfillment status: “Canceled Unfulfilled”. Maybe you can talk to Support and make that a feature request. In the meantime you should add a tag to them so you know right away.

I will give you a straight recommendation as its shopify default view, so what you are looking try doing this Filter out canceled orders and if this works use save view for operations

Shopify treats order status and fulfillment status as completely separate lifecycles, so even canceled/refunded orders can still show as “unfulfilled.” It’s technically consistent, but pretty unintuitive when you’re working the order list day to day.

What worked for us wasn’t trying to “fix” the status, but controlling the view instead:
– Using a saved view filtered by “Open” for fulfillment
– Filtering out canceled/refunded orders from ops views
– Tagging canceled orders for quick visual identification

Not perfect, but it keeps the workflow clean and avoids mistakes.

Would definitely love to see Shopify introduce something like “Canceled (Unfulfilled)” to make this clearer.
