I am trying to remove a staff member and it is asking me for my password. Problem is I log in via Google sign in. I don’t have a password. I’ve tried using my google password and this is not working. I have tried to sign in with regular email but it just takes me to Google sign in when I put in the email. How do I fix this?
Topic summary
Issue: A store owner couldn’t remove a staff member because Shopify prompted for an account password, but their account used Google sign-in and had no password. Attempts to use the Google password or switch to email sign-in just redirected back to Google.
Resolution/workaround provided by the OP:
- In Shopify admin, click your name (top-right) > Manage account.
- Remove the Google connection.
- You’ll then be prompted/able to add a Shopify password.
- After setting a password, proceed with the staff removal.
Reactions: Another participant called this an unreasonable workaround and urged Shopify to address it.
Status: Practical workaround identified; no official product fix mentioned. The issue appears resolved for the OP but broader concerns remain about the need to decouple Google sign-in to perform sensitive actions.
Well finally got to shopify support after jumping through hoops in incognito mode. If anyone is wondering in the future.
Click on your name in top right in admin.
Go to manage account
Remove Google connection
It then gives you an option to add a password.
What an absolutely absurd workaround to have to do. @Shopify_77 fix this good lord
