Hey Guys
with the latest update, you cannot seem to easily search customers under the customer tab anymore? Only the search at top which is a bit slower? Maybe I just cant see it anymore?

Hey, @ryangerken .
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!
I’ve taken a look at our changelog and I’m not seeing any changes made to the search in the Customers tab. However, if you’re not seeing the old search bar, then it’s possible that your store is enrolled in the Customer segmentation (Beta). While there isn’t a way to switch back to the old version, we’re open to feedback on the new experience. That being said, I’d be happy to let our development team know about the performance issues that you’re having with the search at the top of the Shopify admin.
Do you have any additional feedback for us about the new experience?
We have this issue frequently and until recently it’s been a nuisance. Now it seems to take 2 or 3 searches to find a customer. Customers receive a discount IF they have a tag. If we can’t find the customer, we can’t apply the discount. This is a significant problem.
Greetings, @CVT .
Thank you for joining the thread and sharing this feedback with us!
I understand that you are finding the new search function to be more of a nuisance, as it takes a few searches to find a customer. While we aren’t able to switch back to the old version, we are open to feedback on the new experience and we’d be happy to implement a fix.
That being said, I wasn’t able to replicate the issue when searching for customers in my test store. Could you tell me more about the issue? Or, how is the search behaving on your end?
The new customer search gives you a list of customers with similar first and last names. Not helpful at all. It does take longer.
I just realized that we may be talking about two different things.
I was referring to POS searching.
For many months (possibly since last summer, I’ve not kept track because it’s sporadic) cashiers have reported episodes when they search for a customer that they know is in our database, nothing comes up. Until recently, they would type the name in again and search and the second time it would find the customer. In the last week or so, they’ve had to do this 3 or more times. Restarting the POS application may correct the problem but when there is a line of customers, this is a terrible option.
Not adding the customer to the cart is not an option because we offer customers a 10% discount if they are in our database. The discount rule is set to only allow people with a specific tag to get the discount. We don’t want to change this rule because we are trying to move away from ad-hoc discounts.
Searching for customers in Admin has changed, I think that’s what the others in this thread are referring to. It is no longer possible to search by customer from within that module and get a list of customers by name. You can search for a customer from the top level search bar but it returns a list of orders, items and customers that match your entry. You need to choose the type = Customer and then you have to select one, which opens that customer’s record. Saved searches in the customer module are geared toward customers with an online presence only. We use Shopify for POS almost exclusively. The kicker here is that the ONLY way to eliminate duplicate customers (see many other threads on this topic) is to pull up a list of them and change them one at a time. I look through the list of duplicates, select the one to keep and change the name of the others to Use The Other. This is the only way to enforce usage of a single customer.
And a separate question, I tried to link some screen shots and see now that we can’t attach JPG or GIFs anymore? But XLS files are ok? That makes no sense.
Yea like if the guys name is David Andrew and you type in “David A” David Jones is like the second option, search in alphabetical order dang it!!!
Hey, @CVT .
Thank you for following up and providing the additional context!
My apologies for the late response, as I’ve had to look into a few different things and prepare some feedback for our development team. That being said, while it does appear that we are talking about the two different search functions on Shopify, I’d be happy to gather your feedback on both so that further improvements can be taken into account for future releases and/or updates.
That being said, I’m sorry to hear that you and your staff have been dealing with this search issue on the Shopify POS for quite some time. Restarting devices is something that I’d encourage doing more often, as I frequently notice unusual behavior or minor glitches on my phone/tablet when my device hasn’t been restarted for a prolonged period of time. However, since you’re using tags for discounts and if you’re noticing that this problem occurs frequently, then we may need to have our technical team take a look at the report logs from your Shopify POS. To do this, simply send a report from the Shopify POS app and get in touch with us through the Shopify Help Center. From there, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, callback, or email.
Searching for customers in the admin has changed, and we’re happy to collect feedback on this new user-experience for future improvements. For example, we’ve just announced an update to customer searches based on the feedback from our merchants. If you’d like to learn more about this new update, then please take a look at our changelog - Searching for customers from the Customers page. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a quicker way to remove duplicate customers on Shopify, then you can consider using a third-party app, called Doppelganger. If you need any help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you - you can reach out to them directly through the contact information found in the Support section of their app’s page.
I did experience some issues with adding/uploading screenshots (eg. JPGs, GIFs) previously as well. However, it looks like this issue has been resolved and I can confirm that I’m able to upload images on the Shopify Community. Just to confirm, are you still experiencing this issue on your end?
I’d also love to hear more about your business! What kind of products do you sell? Are you doing any marketing for your store?
