The store country cannot be changed directly because the system is showing an error asking to contact support. I already contacted them, and they said the issue has been escalated and may take several days to resolve.
Hey @alexander9
That’s normal Shopify behavior, country changes always require support to manually process because it affects your billing currency, subscription plan availability, tax settings, and payment provider eligibility. It’s not a bug, it’s a deliberate gatekeeping step.
“Several days” is the standard timeline, sometimes faster. Just reply directly inside your existing ticket if you don’t hear back in 4 to 5 business days, don’t open a new one as that resets your queue spot. While you wait, don’t change anything else on the store (no plan switches, no payment provider edits) because that can complicate the country change on Shopify’s end. Hope it gets sorted soon.
Best,
Moeed
@Moeed No, support already confirmed that this is a bug. Unfortunately, it has been more than 24 hours since the ticket was created, and there is still no solution or update.
Try changing billing address followed by business address. And instead of email try chat support they will resolve it in real time.
If its a new store you can buy another store and transfer your data
The most common reason the country field is greyed out is because Shopify Payments is active. If you can still access the settings, try temporarily deactivating Shopify Payments.
In many cases, this unlocks the country field immediately so you can change it yourself without waiting for support.
