Can't create customer groups on Shopify anymore?

So it seems as though with seemingly no warning (or documentation that I can find), Shopify has disabled the creation of customer groups, in favor of customer segments. That wouldn’t be an issue if customer segments were eligible to use in the Shopify Pro Bulk Account Inviter tool. Unfortunately, only customer groups are eligible to be used with that tool.

We are finalizing our new store and selectively inviting customers to create their accounts based on groups created by filtering on customer tags. We got partway through that process and now can no longer continue based on this new change.

Has anyone else come across this issue in the last 24 hours? Has anyone found a workaround? We have a ticket in with Shopify Support, but I can’t imagine how a tool that was strongly used as a selling tool just a few months ago is now essentially useless in how we were told to use it.

I don’t have a workaround for that, just voicing my concern about this update as well. The individual customer search bar has also been removed, leaving only the top search bar. The issue with this is that there is no way to use a partial search term, returning multiple possible results that can then be bulk edited. If I search for a customer, I have to choose a specific customer. I used to be able to search “bob” and have every bob show up in a list that I could bulk add a tag to, bulk edit a name, etc. This update may have added better filters (I think that’s the point of it?), but taking out customer groups and the ability to search and bulk edit the search results is a huge miss. Please add these abilities back asap.
