Can't redirect to new URL

Topic summary

A user is attempting to redirect their old .se domain to a new .com domain but encounters a “Path can’t be blank” error in Shopify’s redirect interface.

Issue Identified:

  • The Shopify redirect panel shown in the screenshot is designed only for internal URL redirects within the same domain, not for cross-domain redirects.

Solution Provided:

  • The .com domain is already configured as the primary Shopify store domain.
  • The redirect from .se to .com must be set up at the domain registrar level (where the .se domain was purchased) using a 301 redirect.
  • If the registrar doesn’t support domain-level redirects, the domain needs to be hosted elsewhere to perform a server-level redirect.

Status: The issue has been diagnosed with clear next steps provided, but implementation remains with the original poster.

When trying to redirect the URL from my old domain (https://eggetslipen.se/) to my new one, (https://eggetslipen.com) shopify gives me the error: “Path can’t be blank”. Can anyone help me resolve this?

Thanks in advance!

I see you have already set your Shopify store on the .com domain (I went and looked at it). Now, the redirection for your .se domain needs to be done at your Domain Registrar’s level. So log in to the account where you purchased your domain and set the 301 Redirect there and you will be all set.

@ellaella , the redirect panel you’re showing is for in-domain redirects only.

As mentioned, for domain-level redirect, you should redirect the domain at your registrar if it allows that. You’d have to host the domain somewhere and perform a server-level redirect if your registrar doesn’t support domain redirects.
