First of all, I would like to start by saying that I opened another store before this, on another account. I was able to use my debit card to pay for the basic plan, and it didn’t get rejected. Here is the SMS proof of the transaction that happened:
However, when I try to add that same card it gets rejected. I assume this is because it says “Credit Card” but as I said I was able to add it before. Can you help? Thanks.
Thank you for your post, I’m happy to share some information with you here.
Can you confirm which country you’re located in? Our billing options vary based on region. Generally, you can pay for your Shopify bills using a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. Your credit card needs to allow for recurring payments. Alternatively, you can use a debit card that is co‑branded with Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. If you use a co‑branded debit card to pay your Shopify bills, then it must meet the following requirements:
The card must have international capabilities.
The card must be set up to accept recurring transactions.
If your co‑branded debit card doesn’t have these capabilities or if you’re not sure, then you must contact the financial institution that issued the card for assistance.
You can read more about payment methods for your Shopify bill in this help document.
Please let me know if you have any further questions about this!
First of all, I live in Turkey. The card has international capabilities as I have used it for other online purchases.
Again, I used my card to pay for the Basic Plan when I was making my first store. If you removed the ability to add debit cards to Shopify, then that’s fine. But I still don’t know the reason why this is happening.
Thank you for getting back to me. We do still support debit cards that are co-branded with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express as payment methods. Can you confirm that your debit card meets this requirement?
It’s possible that we used to support certain kinds of debit cards that we don’t anymore, but if your card meets all the requirements listed above, then it should work.
