Cart Message option not found when checking order in admin

Hi Guys, I have just started a shopify store and I have an issue.

In the cart, we offer the opportunity for the customer to add a message for the gift receiver. When I check the order on the admin Shopify, I can’t find the message written by the customer. Please help me out.

There is the code used to create this optional message (I found it on Internet and am not a coding expert).

I can see that you have added some custom code to your theme in order to add cart note functionality. Cart notes are definitely a great feature to have, as they allow the customer to communicate any special requests to you while ordering (thus reducing things like follow-up emails).

I wanted to let you know that many themes actually offer cart notes as an included feature, without having to add any custom code. Have you already explored this option? Depending on the theme you are using, you can usually turn them on from within the Theme Editor. You would navigate to the Cart section and look for any checkbox relating to cart notes. We have some documentation on this here that you can check out to learn more.

I’d love to be able to help you troubleshoot why that code isn’t working as expected, however I am not a developer myself and so it would be out of my skill set. Perhaps other developers will chime in here to help. You could also consider hiring a Shopify Expert to help with that. I believe the code is using the ‘line_item object’ for which we have some developer documentation here that may help.

May I ask where you found that snippet of code? Replying directly to the person who posted it may be helpful as they might be able to advise why their code is not working to pull cart notes into the order page.

If taking a gift message on the cart page, this should pass through to your order at an Order Attribute. It will appear in your Notes section. The key thing is having the input form field within your Cart Form. The data needs to be submitted properly in order to be pulled through.

If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box solution, our app Giftship provides the ability to take gift messages on the cart level, and actually automates the printing of these as well. So in terms of fulfillment, the gift message will automatically be included on the Packing Slip, etc., or whichever document is required.
