Change pricing in bulk for worst selling products

Topic summary

Goal: reduce prices in bulk (e.g., −€5) for the bottom 25% worst-selling products across ~10k SKUs without manually tagging 2k–2.5k items. The requester uses Hextom Bulk Editor but needs an automated way to select low performers or tag them first.

Proposed approach: use Shopify’s “ABC Analysis by product” report to filter low-performing products by revenue contribution, export the CSV, then bulk edit in Excel before applying changes. One participant offered direct assistance.

Counterpoint: another user states this export is insufficient to update existing products on reimport—containing enough fields to create new products but not reliably edit current ones. They report Shopify support could not provide a working method after phone/chat, suggesting no straightforward built-in path.

Clarification: ABC Analysis categorizes products by revenue contribution (A/B/C) to identify low performers, which could guide selection for pricing changes or tagging.

Status: no confirmed solution in-thread; the question remains open, with a follow-up asking if any solution was found.

Hi,

I have a couple stores with each a couple thousand unique products in them. In total I’m talking about +/- 10k unique products.

For let’s say the bottom 25% worst selling items for a given timeframe, I want to lower the price by for example €5. I have an app which can bulk edit (Hextom Bulk Editor, it’s awesome!) the pricing in bulk, however I first need to make a selection of products which the bulk edit applies to.

I could give tags to the products, but I’m not planning to do that manually to about 2000-2500 products.

Anybody knows how to adjust pricing for your worst selling items in bulk? Or just add a tag to the worst selling products?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @WintersNick ,

You could use ABC Analysis by product report offered by Shopify to have your products filtered based on the revenue each one gets to you. Then you can export a CSV and edit it in bulk using Excel.

Use this link to access the report I am speaking about: admin.shopify.com/store/YOUR-STORE-URL/reports/abc_analysis_by_product and hit the Export button once you select only the low-performing products.

If you need more help, do not hesitate to reach out here or over DM. If you need direct assistance, I can also help by doing this for you, for free.

Thanks!

This is not a valid solution. The export does not give you the full information needed to reupload that info over top of the existing products. You get enough to create a new product but not enough to edit the existing. Shopify has no idea how to do this. I found that out today after wasting an hour on the phone and via chat.
