Change the order of my collections - Craft 3.0

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to change the order of their collections manually?

I am trying to change the order of my /collections as described in this article: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/themes-by-shopify/vintage-themes/customizing-vintage-themes/change-collections-page However the article is for vintage Shopify themes and I use Craft 3.0.

I need the collections to appear in a very specific order. Right now I only have the options of oldest to newest, newest to oldest, alphabetically A-Z or Z-A, or by highest/lowest inventory. None of these showcases the /collections in the order I need and I need to manually adjust this somehow to ensure my most important collections are shown more prominently.

How can I change the order of collections on my collections page for Craft 3.0 please?

Hi there @ralphs_orchard . I’m happy to look into this with you! What is the sort order you are hoping to have? Do you mind if I ask why you’d like the collections in this specific order? Are there certain products you are trying to highlight? Also, how are your customers currently navigating to that page?

You can edit the page you’re speaking of within your theme editor by going to Online store > Themes and selecting the Collection list template. The available settings/options will depend on the theme you are using. Using Craft, the only sort options for this template are the ones listed under Sort collections by: in the Collections list page section settings. It looks like the only options are the ones you’ve already mentioned and there is no manual option, but I still have a few suggestions to get this done using Craft.

The first suggestion is to speak with our support team on this page. Since Craft is a theme created by Shopify we may be able to customize this for you. We would need to review your theme further and ensure the customization meets our Design Policy to be sure, but if you speak with a Support Advisor they will be able to get that process started for you. You can also read more about our Design Policy here. If we’re unable to customize this for you, you could also reach out to a Shopify expert to help edit your theme’s code. Shopify experts are trusted, third-party agencies and freelancers who offer services to Shopify merchants. You can hire one here or learn more about them here.

My other suggestion is a bit of a workaround. It involves using a new page template designed with a “Collection list” section to display all of your collections instead of using your “Collection list” template. To do this you will want to first go into your theme editor and create a new page template. You can read more about creating templates here. Once the new page template is created you can design it to show a list of your collections by adding a Collection list section. Using this section, you are able to add up to 15 collections and you can move the blocks around to manually arrange the order they appear in.

When the template is completed you will then want to go back into your Shopify Admin to create a new page. To do this go to Online store > Pages > Add page. By default, this new page will use your Default page page template. You will want to change the template this page is using to the new template you created instead. You can find the steps to apply a new template to a page here.

The final step is to add this page to your storefront. I would recommend adding this to your menu. You can create a new menu item called something like “All collections” and you can link the new page you created. This page here has more information on adding menu items. Doing this will make your new manually sorted collection page appear when customers click “All collections” in your menu. You can see examples of how this new page compares to your original “Collectons list” template below.

Genius! No one has been able to help until now. I’ve now managed to use your workaround which was super easy to implement and finally am able to showcase my collections in the exact order I want. Thank you!
