This issue just started today, and we’re noticing orders coming from a new channel. Previously, when we transitioned to Hydrogen, the channel label changed from “Online” to “Hydrogen.” However, as of today, we’re seeing a new channel labeled “xyz Product V2.” Could you help explain why this is happening and if there’s any reason for concern?
Topic summary
Sudden change in Shopify order “channel” labels for Hydrogen storefront orders: a new label like “xyz Product V2” began appearing today instead of the prior “Hydrogen.”
Observed across multiple stores; an attached screenshot illustrates the new label in the Admin order list.
Latest explanation: Shopify is now attributing sales to the specific Hydrogen storefront where the cart was created. If multiple Hydrogen storefronts are used, orders are differentiated by storefront-specific channel names (Hydrogen is Shopify’s custom storefront framework; “channel” is the order source attribution label).
No public changelog or official announcement yet. An unofficial confirmation reportedly came via Shopify’s Official Slack community, with expectations of a formal update.
Impact/priority: No immediate cause for concern; the change improves attribution granularity between multiple Hydrogen storefronts. Action: Monitor for an official Shopify update or documentation; verify storefront naming to ensure the new labels match internal conventions.
We noticed this for a few of our clients as well since today.
I cannot find anything in Shopify changelog around this, but i expect there will be an update soon
The sale attributions in Shopify are now specific to the Hydrogen storefront where the cart was created. If multiple Hydrogen storefronts are used, it is designed to allow differentiation between the orders in the list.
There isn’t any official announcement, however, Someone from Shopify confirmed this on Official Slack community.
