Changing aspect ratio of main product images from 1:1 - NARRATIVE

Topic summary

Altering product page images from a 1:1 square to a portrait presentation to avoid the current zoomed appearance and vertical scrolling. The goal is to display the full image or scale it down within the existing square space across desktop and mobile.

Requested solution: a code-based, theme-wide change rather than manually editing each image. Specifically looking for a way to fit portrait images cleanly without cropping or zoom.

References provided: store URL, preview password, and a product page link. A photo collage on the product page illustrates the desired outcome (image 1 vs image 2) as a visual guide.

Current status: no resolution or technical steps yet; the user is seeking guidance on implementation. Key question remains open: how to adjust the image aspect ratio or container behavior in the product page to consistently show full portrait images without manual intervention.

Can anyone help me with altering the aspect ratio of our product page images. At the moment they are set to 1:1 and we would like them to be portrait. At the moment, the main image appears “zoomed in” and my images then scroll up and down which doesn’t look very professional to me. Is there a way to display the entire image/scale it down within the shopify square image space? If possible on both desktop & mobile versions.

I used a photo collage app on this page to show how I’d like it to look (image 1 vs image 2). I’m hoping there’s a code I can use to make this quicker than manually having to change every single image?
