Changing market not possible for certain languages

Hi there,

I’m facing a special issue.

My Shop is in divided in 3 markets (Germany, UK and Sweden) and I have 3 languages active, all of them in every single market.

Main market is Germany. When german as language is selected, I’m able to change the market, (it doesn’t matter in which marekt I’m currently in), but as soon as I’m in another language, I’m not able to change the market, I need first switch to german to be able to change the market.

How can this issue be solved? Is there any setting that I messed up?

Thanks for your help!

Hello @NordicPhil

It appears that you are experiencing an issue in which the market-switching capability only works when the German language is selected, but not in the other languages. This can be frustrating, especially when dealing with multiple markets and languages.

Here are a few things you could check:

Theme settings: First, check your theme’s settings to confirm that the language and market selectors are properly adjusted for all languages. Some themes have language-specific settings, so ensure that the market selector is active and working properly in both the UK and Sweden languages.

Language-Specific Code: Check to see if your theme has any language-specific code that may be harming the market-switching feature. If the code or settings are limited to the German language, this could explain why the market switcher does not operate in other languages.

Translation App Settings: If you’re using a translation app to handle languages, make sure the market selector functionality is translated correctly and works in all languages. Some programs may need additional configuration to support multi-market configurations.

Browser Caching or Cookies: Browser caching or cookies might occasionally create unexpected behavior when switching languages and markets. Clearing your browser cache or testing in incognito mode may help determine whether this is the problem.

Consult with Theme Support: If the problem persists, you may want to contact your theme’s support team. They can assist you determine whether this problem is caused by a specific option or adjustment.

Temporary Workaround: To change the market, encourage consumers to switch the language first. However, this may not be ideal. Ensuring that the selectors perform seamlessly across all languages is critical for ensuring a smooth user experience.

If these procedures do not resolve the issue, more research, maybe involving custom development or a Shopify specialist reviewing the code of your theme, may be required.

I hope this helps, and best of luck getting things to function properly!
