changing myshopify url or transferring data to new site

hello!

I have a website that was initially set up by a freelancer. He set it up, not realizing that we would not be able to change the admin domain - so now we’re stuck with whatever he chose (which is unrelated to our brand), think “iamdinosaur.myshopify”. I know it’s not a big deal (I guess) but it really bothers me every time i have to use it to to log into different apps etc.

As we are planning on re-doing our site with a new template, I’m wondering if there’s a way I can set up a completely new page - with my desired myshopify URL - but have the rest of my account details transferred, including my products, blog posts, pages etc.

Is that possible? Or would I need to start completely from scratch with the new site, if I want to get rid of this URL that is haunting me?

I want to change the admin URL. I have already set my domain so that my customers see the accurate URL/domain. However, on the backend, the “admin” URL (what was created when the site was initially set up), is wrong (as an example, “iamdinosaur.myshopify.com”). The customer does not see this. But I need to use it everytime I use any apps or integrations with my store). Hope that clarifies.

Hi,

The admin URL is generated based on your store name when you first sign up for your Shopify account and cannot be modified afterwards. This means that if your store name is “iamdinosaur”, the admin URL will always be “admin.shopify.com/store/iamdinosaur”, you can create a new Shopify Domain “iambird.myshopify.com” and access via “iambird.myshopify.com/admin” however the final Admin URL will still be “admin.shopify.com/store/iamdinosaur”.

You could try and see if Shopify will change however I don’t believe they will, live with the admin URL, or create a new account / store with your desired admin URL.
