I’m using Simple theme and love it but am wondering if there is any way to move the navigation menu from the side to the top? I really just want everything to be centered on my homepage so the side nav is starting to bother me.
Hi, @Fortunebaby . I’m happy to look into this with you! Can you tell me more about the features of the Simple theme that you like? The reason I ask is that I may be able to suggest some alternative themes you may want to try.
I took a look through the settings for the Simple theme and there isn’t an option to change the position of the main menu. Since this is a vintage theme the built in customization options are more limited. In this case, to change the menu position you would need to customize your theme code or use a third party app. We have more information on editing theme code here and you can find a list of navigation apps in the app store here. If you’d like to do this by editing your theme code and you’re not comfortable coding on your own, you can hire a Shopify expert to help you out. Shopify experts are trusted, third-party agencies and freelancers who offer services for Shopify merchants, including help customizing themes. All that being said, if you are considering these customizations to your theme I recommend trying out an Online Store 2.0 theme instead. These themes allow for much more customization without you needing to edit your theme code and often give more control over the navigation/menu display. What I really like about the Simple theme is it allows me to created featured banners on my home page, I haven’t been able to find any 2.0 themes that allow me to do this, but if you can suggest some that would be great. If you’re looking for a theme with little clutter I recommend choosing a theme from this page. It lists themes with a more streamlined, minimalist style. That being said, it’s good to remember that with Online Store 2.0 themes you can add and remove sections easily to create a more streamlined look with other themes that are not listed on this page as well.
Most Online Store 2.0 themes come with an image banner section either by default or available to add using sections and blocks. We have a description of the image banner section for themes created by Shopify here. The section may operate differently or have a different name based on the theme you’re using, but you should be able to find a section like this in most Online Store 2.0 themes.
