ChatGPT & Copilot Agentic Shopping — Is It Live for All Shopify Stores?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been seeing a lot of recent posts and announcements about Agentic Shopping experiences powered by ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot — where AI agents can browse products, compare options, and even help complete purchases directly from online stores.

This sounds like a big shift in how customers will discover and shop from Shopify stores, so I wanted to ask a few clarifying questions:

Is Agentic Shopping currently live for all Shopify stores, or only for selected merchants / plans?

I have a client on the Basic Shopify plan — how can we check if their store is already compatible or discoverable by these AI shopping agents?

Is there any setting, integration, or configuration required on the Shopify side to enable this?

Does this depend on things like product feeds, Storefront API, or specific SEO / schema setups?

Most of the information I find is coming from AI product announcements, but I haven’t seen a clear explanation from Shopify’s side yet.

If anyone from Shopify or merchants who already tested this could share insights, it would be extremely helpful for planning future shopping and conversion strategies.

Thanks in advance.

There’s no Agentic Shopping switch in Shopify and it’s not limited by plan. These AI agents work off what’s already public: product pages, structured data, feeds, and APIs. If a store is crawlable, has clean product data, pricing, availability, and decent SEO, it’s already as compatible as it can be.

Nothing special to install yet. No extra integration required.

Think of it more like advanced search/discovery, not a new Shopify feature merchants control today.

For now, the best prep is boring but effective: solid product data, schema, fast pages, and accurate inventory. Shopify hasn’t officially rolled out merchant-level controls for this yet.

Thanks a lot.. Great to hear there is no limitation based on plan

Agentic shopping is live, but not in the way some announcements make it sound — and Maryzico is right that there isn’t a separate plan-based switch for most stores.

For Shopify merchants, once Agentic Storefronts is enabled (Admin → Sales Channels), products can be surfaced to platforms like ChatGPT and Copilot through Shopify’s Catalog layer. There’s usually no need for custom Storefront API work, schema tweaks, or manual ACP feed uploads. As long as the store is public and products are published, it’s generally eligible.

Where I see the real difference is in product data quality. Clear titles, correct brand (not just vendor), material, structured variants, and complete policies influence how confidently AI systems classify and surface products. I’ve been analyzing this pipeline closely while building AI Commerce Ready, and many stores are technically compatible — just not optimized from an AI-readiness perspective.

From what I can see - Agentic Shopping is only available in US at the moment to stores who have things set up correctly.

It most likely will be turned on for more stores really soon once the concept is proven.

Here is the Shopify help center article on it: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts

Agentic Storefronts is in Early Access. If a Shop was included in Early Access, they would have received an email in early January with updated ToS.

Early Access began to roll-out on January 26th but Shopify did a poor job setting expectations by not being transparent about how they planned to roll-out the feature. Their communications made it sound like everyone in Early Access would have the Agentic Storefronts section under Settings → Sales Channels on the 26th. But after several hours of online chat with different support agents, one slipped up and said that it is a phased roll-out and they don’t know (were told not tell us) the targeted completion date of the roll-out or what phase each shop is in.

There has been absolutely no discussion on the feature in these forums or the developer forums, which is unusual for such a high profile feature. I’m beginning to think that they have encountered some significant technical issues but that is only speculation on my part.

If any shop owners actually have it enabled, it would be interesting to know when it was turned on for your shop and hear your thoughts so far.

Hey, I have been researching this for clients. Here’s the short version:

Agentic Storefronts are in early access, not live for everyone yet. US-only for now. You’ll get an email when your store is eligible, check Settings → Apps and sales channels to see if it’s appeared. It appeared for a few of my clients after a few days when it was announced.

Important distinction most people are missing: your products can already be discovered by AI agents (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) through Shopify Catalog and web crawling even without this feature. The agentic storefront part just controls whether customers can checkout directly in the AI chat vs. being redirected to your store.

No plan restriction mentioned, so Basic should be fine. When eligible, it’s on by default, you just toggle individual AI channels from the admin.

For better AI visibility: clean product data, good descriptions, schema markup, reviews.

One thing worth sharing from the ground level — we’ve been working with a small group of Shopify stores during the early access period through Stabile, our loyalty agent built for AI shopping.

One of those stores, in a trending premium confectionery category, saw AI shopping-attributed orders double week over week last month.

If you’re curious how your store is performing, Stabile’s AI agent checks AI shopping readiness, measures your AI channel contribution, and shows you where to focus — before the channel gets crowded.

Great questions. I’ve been working with Shopify merchants on AI visibility specifically, so I can share what I’m seeing in practice.

Is it live for all stores? Discoverability by AI agents is already happening regardless of your plan. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot can already crawl and reference any public Shopify store. The newer Agentic Storefronts feature where checkout can happen inside the AI chat is rolling out in phases, US-first. Some merchants have received email notices and can see it under Settings in their admin. But even without the full agentic checkout, your client’s products can already appear in AI shopping recommendations.

How to check if your client’s store is discoverable: The simplest test is to go to ChatGPT and ask “recommend me a store for [your client’s product category]” or “where can I buy [specific product type] online.” If they don’t appear, that’s your baseline. Then try the same on Perplexity and Gemini — results vary significantly across platforms.

What actually determines whether AI recommends a store: From auditing dozens of stores, the biggest factors are product data quality, not plan level or special integrations. Specifically:

Product descriptions need to be attribute-rich, not just marketing copy. AI agents compare products by specific details materials, dimensions, ingredients, compatibility. Thin descriptions get skipped.

Meta descriptions matter more than most merchants realize. Most stores I audit have 40-60% of products with blank meta descriptions. AI agents use these for quick product understanding.

Structured data / JSON-LD on product pages helps AI parse your catalog accurately. Most Shopify themes output basic schema but it’s often incomplete.

llms.txt is an emerging standard a structured file hosted on your domain that gives AI a curated overview of your store. Think of it as a cheat sheet for AI agents about who you are, what you sell, and what makes you different.

For your client on Basic plan: No special integration or configuration is required. Focus on cleaning up product data fill in all meta descriptions, make product titles descriptive and specific, ensure product images have alt text, and verify your theme outputs proper JSON-LD schema. These fundamentals determine whether AI recommends you, regardless of plan level.

Rahul
