This keeps randomly happening and Shopify do not seem to know the cause of it. Is this happening with anyone else?
At random times my browser tab which should say ‘Checkout’ is being translated to French, Russian, Arabic, Dutch etc. I do not use a VPN and it happens on multiple devices and browsers, it’s really hurting my conversion rate as customers are seeing a different language when checking out (just on the tab title, not the actual checkout page)
Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a fix? Is this a bug of the new one page checkout?
I am on Refresh, I spoke to Shopify and they have now said it’s a bug since one page checkout was implemented, they’re aware of other stores affected too and put mine on the list.
They said a fix should be quick. So frustrating, it took a long while to get to the point where they acknowledged it, a customer service rep even disagreed with me that this problem would not affect by conversion. I believe it’s massively impacting my conversion because if I bought something online that I believed to be in the UK and the tab came up in Russian I would not purchase.
I hope the fix happens soon as I have had to stop running ads due to bad conversion rate since the problem.
My checkout tab also showed it as a completely different company, a gift shop in Scotland not connected to our business whatsoever, it really does seem a mess.
I am also seeing this and discussed with support today. It happens randomly, 1 in every couple of loads. May show Dutch, Spanish, Chinese, even though I am based out of the US. Once it even showed a title that seemed to belong to another website.
Having the same issue as well. I’m based in Nebraska and the checkout page itself is displayed in English but the checkout tab name shows “random language - our website name”
This seems to work, albeit, when testing 5 times, I still had 1 time when the page title showed the default “Checkout”, even though I set my page title to “Finish Checkout”
My other worry is that the underlying reason as to why these page titles are in abnormal languages is pointing to a larger underlying reason – ex: causing difficulties with checkouts for customers. I can’t verify this, but that is still a big worry for me because many customers may not even notice the page title especially if they’re checking out from mobile. So I worry there is something else that is causing the checkout conversion drops
I have seen a lot of store owners complaining about the conversion rate drop since the one page checkout was implemented, there are definitely other bugs going on with it too but I’m glad this one can be resolved.
That being said it just shows the incompetence of Shopify support not offering it as a solution or at least a temporary fix to help with the situation.
Hey folks. The issue where the checkout title could appear with incorrect content (including, sometimes, the wrong language) is now fixed. The cause was a bug that specifically affected the browser tab title only — no other translations in checkout were affected. The originally selected solution (overriding your store’s translations to hardcode you desired tab title) is no longer necessary. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused!
