Checkout Extensibility Upgrade AMA: Pickup Points and Local Pickup with Ask Phill

Topic summary

Ask Phill, a Shopify Plus agency from Amsterdam with 30+ checkout extensibility upgrades completed, hosted an AMA focused on implementing delivery options like pickup points and local pickup in Shopify’s new Checkout Extensibility.

Key Features Discussed:

  • 3P Pickup Points API (early access): Enables custom pickup points as delivery options during checkout
  • Store transfers (early access): Allows offering products from other stores/fulfillment centers for local pickup

Notable Q&A:
A participant asked about setting up 200+ dealer locations as pickup points. Ask Phill recommended using the Pickup Point Delivery Option Generator API with Shopify Functions to display all dealer locations at checkout. Event Details:
The AMA ran July 22-26 with a 24-hour response window goal. The event has now closed, but participants can continue discussions on Shopify Plus or Checkout Extensibility Upgrade boards. This relates to the August 13th checkout extensibility upgrade deadline.

Ask Phill is a Shopify Plus agency located in Amsterdam. They’ve completed over 30 upgrades to Checkout Extensibility for their clients. A common requirement is implementing different options for delivery methods in checkout, such as pick-up points and local pickup (sometimes referred to as pickup in store, or click and collect).

At Summer Edition, Shopify introduced a couple of new features to enable more delivery options in Checkout Extensibility, such as

  • 3P Pickup Points API, now available in early access, which enables you to generate custom pickup points as a delivery option for buyers during checkout
  • Store transfers, also in early access, allows you to offer customers a wider selection of products for local pickup by transferring items from other stores or fulfillment centers to their preferred pickup location. Commonly known as Ship to Store fulfillment.

If you have any questions related to these topics, the team at Ask Phill is ready to help in the AMA thread below.

How would you recommend setting up a network of 200+ dealers as pickup locations?

Hey @eefrati , thanks for your question!

This is a perfect use case for the Pickup Point Delivery Option Generator API. By integrating this API, you can easily create custom pickup points and list all 200+ dealer locations for your customers to choose from at checkout.

You can utilise a Shopify function to display these dealer pickup points during checkout, making it convenient for your customers. As this feature is still in early access, make sure you have the necessary permissions from Shopify. You can request access by emailing pickup-point-generator-early-access@shopify.com. Additionally, you can test the API on Partner development stores without needing to request access.

If you need any help with the technical setup or have other questions, feel free to ask here or contact us directly.
