Clarification on Partnership program

Hey Shopify community !

I hope everyone is doing well. I have a question that a more experienced person in this industry would be able to clarify for me.

I am new in this whole Shopify world but i do have some sales and website development experience. I am wondering, to provide services as a partner like sales & marketing, store set up, and other services I’m interested in like business strategy, should I have already built a Shopify store as a merchant and made it profitable in order to validate the skills as a Shopify partner?

I feel like I need to set up a store as a Merchant, apply the skills i want to offer , make it profitable and then switch to being a Partner who’s focus is on helping others do the same. Is this the right approach? Is this how people transition ? or am i off track?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank

Hi Sadiel,

There’s no “right” approach to starting off as a service provider to Shopify merchants, so it’s not required that you have previous experience with using Shopify as a merchant yourself. However there are a lot of benefits from being familiar with the platform, admin UI, and general experience of using Shopify, that would help you to work with and understand merchants. Maybe you could do both simultaneously by working with merchants on their stores, and selling products yourself on Shopify?
