I’m building a small tool that scans a store’s product catalog and flags missing basics — no image, no description, no SKU.
First real product decision, and I’d rather not answer it alone: right now the scan also flags draft, archived and hidden products too. If you were cleaning up your catalog, would you want those included, hidden by default, or shown separately with a status label?
My guess is “active products only by default,” but I’d rather ask people who actually run stores than guess. What would you expect?
Thanks @SectionKit — really helpful, especially the point about not letting archived/hidden clutter the list of live products that actually need fixing. That lines up with what I’d been seeing too: a half-finished draft flagging as “missing description” is just noise, since incomplete is kind of the whole point of a draft.
So I think you’ve settled the main call for me — active-only by default, with archived/hidden behind their own toggle rather than filtered out completely (since some folks do want to sweep old ones before deleting).
The one thing I’m still deciding: for drafts specifically, is it more useful to leave them out of the scan entirely, or keep them under a “draft” label so someone finishing one up can still see what’s missing? Curious what you’d reach for.

I would expect there to be the option Already active products only by default, as those are the ones that really affect the storefront. Draft, archived and hidden products would be nice too, either as an optional fillter or as a separate page for each with Metafield based labels indicating the status in a clean way. That keeps the main report focused, yet still allows for a review of inactive products when doing large catalog clean-up projects.
