I’m facing an issue while creating Client Transfer Stores from the Dev Dashboard.
When I try to create a store with a unique name like john-smith-dev, Shopify still adds a random number/suffix at the end (for example: john-smith-dev-123456).
I understand that Shopify adds numbers when the name is already taken, but:
I just tried “laza-playground” and it created it without any additional number. Maybe your contains a keyword that is blacklisted, or your IP created too many stores
And I am pretty sure you are not John Smith.
But why does it matter what the myshopify.com store looks like? “To get a clean name,” what for? Hope you or the client do not plan to use the myshopify domain. Yes, for some test/dev things it is fine, but why does it matter if it has a number?
You or the client should have a proper domain with email; that is a minimum for a store.
But I could not find any documentation about adding a random number, so maybe ask Shopify Support directly. Also ther is this

Thanks for prompt response. I have used John Smith as an example and I do not claim to be one. The thing is, I want clean myshopify.com name is because I want it to easy to recall, debug and refer. Sure, I can change it to whatever I like one time given it’s availability but still, that change applies as primary domain and not to my actual myshopify provided store domain.
Imagine: john-smith-sesdjk3478w.myshopify. com - now every app I install or apis I use will receive default domain which is a ugly (imo). Since this is happening recently, I am curious about having default option to set those when I first create store is what I am looking for.
Being an agency, I have issued many myshopify.c om domain which are clean and are good to use everywhere (in terms of internal dev-testing and other apps calling etc) and that’s something we are not able to do anymore and that’s where my question is. How do we get clean myshopify domain in the first place.
This might look like a silly requirement but think it as a brand’s perspective, they’d question - if they can get amazon.myshopify. com instead of amazon-345sdfug.myshopify. com . I discussed this issue with shopify team, they said when I enter my store name, they’d automatically issue clean name if it’s not in use. Butin my case, it failed everytime regardless that domain was available or not. For example: Grobo-Max-John-Capsy (this can’t be any store’s name right?) but I’d get grobo-max-john-capsy-wer543sd4.myshopify. com not just grobo-max-john-capsy (this is again an example and I am not claiming to be Grobo Max John Capsy) and that’s when I didn’t know whom to ask so I posted it here.

But I think there something else at play. So I tried your example and created it without any issue, sorry. Will delete it later today.
I just entered “Grobo Max John Capsy” without -, and no extra numbers were added. So not quite sure where the problem is. Again, your IP should not be flagged for any reason, so it shouldn’t enforce adding extra numbers. Also, any limit you may hit with stores you created should not be an issue. Strange, really.
