Close an account and Delete an email address

Topic summary

A user accidentally created a Shopify store while attempting to accept a collaborator invitation. The deactivated store now blocks access to the intended collaborator account because both are tied to the same email address.

Core Issue:

  • When logging in, the system redirects to the deactivated store instead of the collaborator admin
  • User wants to completely delete their email/account from Shopify to start fresh
  • Browser cache clearing and trying different browsers didn’t resolve the issue

Proposed Solutions:

  • Fastest workaround: Use a different email address for the collaborator account
  • Data deletion: Submit a data removal request through Shopify’s Help Center by connecting with a support advisor via AI chat
  • Not recommended: Deleting the email entirely may create further complications

Current Status:

  • Staff advises against wiping account data as there’s no self-service option in the admin
  • Store owner should verify the permission type (staff vs. collaborator access)
  • Issue requires escalation to authenticated support team for complete resolution
  • Another user reports experiencing the same problem when trying to join their company’s account

Thank you. I dont want to create another shopify account, sorry for the confusion

I want to use my email address Chris@…….com to be the only account I have on shopify, for efficiency and ease of remembering lol.

I’ll ask the brand/e-ecom site to check if it was a staff account or collaborator account they set up to confirm.

But the bigger question / issue is - how can I completely remove my data from Shopify as if my account /email was never created on the platform?
I think if it is completely deleted and I start fresh as a new user, that would be the simplest solution.

Thank you again for the support!
