Closing store and ending domain reminders

I managed a Shopify store as part of a previous job. The store changed hands to my successor (ie. transferred to their management account on Shopify) but I continue to get notifications about renewing the domain. The team would now like to close the store permanently as they opened a new one.

Can someone in Shopify support please contact me to resolve this?

@jhumeniuk , here is the steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Plan.

  2. Click Deactivate store.

  3. If applicable, review the options to switch to the Pause and build plan, or start a new store.

  4. If you still want to deactivate, then click Deactivate store.

  5. Select a reason for the deactivation, and then click Continue.

  6. Enter your password, and then click Deactivate now.

In terms of closing and deactivating the store, the instructions @webwondersco has provided in their response is correct. You can read more about this process on the Shopify Help Center. Please bear in mind that the account owner of the store must be the one to close the store.

In terms of the domain renewal notifications, who is your domain host? If you bought your domain through Shopify and wish to continue using it elsewhere, you’ll want to transfer the domain to another domain host before closing your Shopify store. Most domain providers will have an email address on file that you can change which is used to notify the user about renewals and other updates regarding the domain.

You’ll want to use this link to access our help portal. From there, you can login to your account, and select the prompts that align with your concern. From there, you can then scroll down the page and find some available contact options that you can use to reach the authenticated team for help.

If the primary issue here is that the the newer store manager wants to close the previous store, then they can log into the store and action the closure steps that were advised previously in this thread. In terms of the domain renewal notifications, this means that your email is likely what is attached to the ownership of the email. The current store manager should log into the domain host account and change the email there to one that is associated with them so you don’t receive those emails any further.

Imogen - thanks for following up. For whatever reason, the portal you shared isn’t providing me with a contact option. Can you please escalate this to have someone contact me using the email tagged to my board profile? This is not a typical request so appreciate the complexity but it needs to get resolved.

We’re unable to escalate directly via the Community here, as we’re unable to authenticate and verify users and accounts. I’ll share with you the steps that I use whenever I need to reach out to support myself for my own store:

  • Go to the link I provided you - it’s here again for good measure
  • Login to your Account
  • On the first screen with prompts, select the ‘Account’ tab
  • On the next page, select the ‘Logging in’ tab
  • Then, scroll down the new page and you should see the available contact options near the bottom.

Give those above steps a try and let me know if it works. If it doesn’t, please provide me with a screenshot of what you see.
