Cohesive apps for subscriptions, loyalty points and upselling?

Hey Shopify people,

I am about to start rebuilidng my website (please pray for me), and I am trying to get all my ducks in a row here App-wise so that I can then ensure they will work with my choice of theme.

I would like to have a customer portal that allows customers to see both their subscriptions and loyalty points. The idea is that customers gain points for every $ spent, and when they subscribe, they recieve a higher number of points per $ spent. Ideally, we will also have lifetime spend gifts, but this is in no way crutial. I do however need to ensure that subscriptions are flexible so that items can be added/refill times can be changed.

If I really had my dream come true, the subscription would allow for the first order to be the product in our normal pails, and the subsequent orders would be refills.

I would also like to have a progress bar in the cart for free gifts or free shipping.

And finally I would like to have the option to add free samples in the cart. The idea here would be to either get 1 sample per $50 spent, or just have an option to add free samples (max 3) no matter how much you spend- but the customer does need to be able to choose which samples to try.

Now tell me- does anyone know which apps work particularly well together to make this happen? We are a small company so the price point does matter.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for any help you can provide!

Hi. I’m Ellie. Nice to help you today. I’ll answer by replying to each of your requests

→ To combine subscription and loyalty strategy, I highly recommend using this duo:

Their in-built automation and marketing features make it easy for you to implement the above strategies (as they are apps from Appstle developers).

→ I’m not really clear what you mean by saying “lifetime spend gifts”.

However, if it means “rewarding customers with gifts based on how much they’ve spent in total with the store over time”, I recommend using BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell (5.0 :star: | 3.2k reviews | Free plan avail).

You can utilize its sub-condition: Customers’ order history with many advanced filters.

Still recommend BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell with its progress bar feature. The tiers can apply both for free gifts and free shipping as what I’m showing below.

Still recommend BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell with its free gift with purchase feature.

:white_check_mark: Get 1 sample per $50 spent

:white_check_mark: no matter how much you spend (also mean for any orders)

customers will get free samples (max 3)

and be able to choose which sample they want (use the app’s gift slider or gift popup - here’s example of how the gift slider appears:

MOREOVER:

  • BOGOS can be utilized to give gifts to who buy subscription products.

  • Appstle Subscriptions and BOGOS have also been integrated with each other, so you can offer a volume discount for subscription products.

Hope my answer helps, and fingers crossed for a painless rebuild :crossed_fingers:

Best Regards,

Ellie

I should add that I was looking at trying out Loyalty Lion, Rebuy and Loop.

Hi Nelli!

The stack you mentioned with Loop, LoyaltyLion, and Rebuy (especially!) is a solid combination and probably the most popular approach for what you’re describing already.

A few things worth considering, though:

Loop handles the subscription management side here, but you might want to check out Zendra as a lower-cost alternative. You can do all the flexible frequencies, add-ons, and all that fun stuff, but it’s a very simple Built-for-Shopify implementation that ties everything together well and doesn’t charge transaction fees.

Rebuy is the heavy hitter for the cart upsells, progress bars, sample selection, and all that. It’s the most expensive of the three but it’s also probably doing the most work. The free sample logic you described (1 per $50 or max 3) is configurable through their rules engine.

The trade-off vs. the Appstle ecosystem Ellie recommended: The Zendra/LoyaltyLion/Rebuy stack gives you best-in-class at each layer but you’re, admittedly, managing three vendor relationships and relying on their overlap all holding up.

If budget is a meaningful constraint for you right now, I’d honestly start with just Zendra + Rebuy and rely on Zendra perks for your membership/loyalty setup, too.
