Collections got a major upgrade: multi-source, variant support, and more!

We know collections are one of the main ways customers discover what to buy in your store, from your sales to seasonal campaigns. Merchants are running more sophisticated merchandising than ever, but until now, building collections often meant choosing between automated rules or hand-picked products, but not both in the same collection. Many of you worked around that with duplicate lists, theme tweaks, or third-party apps.

That’s changing, starting today! You can now build one collection from multiple product groups, target specific variants, reuse other collections as building blocks, and connect collections to more parts of your store.

Note that there are no breaking changes. Existing collections continue to work and are updated in the new admin experience automatically. If your store uses third-party or custom apps that interact with collections, ask your developers to update to API version 2026-07 to support these new capabilities. See our dev doc for details.

Why have you defaulted to showing ALL products active and archived in the collections? Before you had to choose to show the archived items. We Archive items and bring them back at some point and do not wish to remove all collections and/or tags from the items since they may be returning. How can we slim down our view to just ACTIVE items now? Why was that removed?

Hi @khoff! While the default view is “All”, there is a dropdown with the option to view Active, Draft, and Archived products. Is this what you are referring to?

Also want to note that archiving a product usually removes it from active selling surfaces, while keeping its data so you can restore it later. It can still be assigned to a collection that does not display in the storefront. Feel free to post follow up questions here or contacting us at collections-support@shopify.com

Hey @Sharon_C

hope you’re doing well!
This is a huge improvement. Combining automated rules with curated products in the same collection will save merchants from relying on duplicate collections, theme workarounds, and extra apps. looking forward to testing the new product groups and variant targeting features

We are not seeing that drop down. Neither myself nor support could find any way to view only the active (which should be the default not all). So how do we get our account to show that dropdown?

@khoff Ooof, I’m sorry about that. Thanks for showing your view. We are already working on a fix for this. I will keep you posted but you will have the option to select “Active” products.
