Color Swatch set up via metafields in Impulse theme- Shopify 2.0, plus variant questions

Topic summary

A store owner is migrating to Shopify 2.0’s Impulse theme (Clean version) and needs guidance on implementing color swatches using the new metafields feature instead of their current third-party app.

Key Questions:

  • How to set up color swatches via metafields in the Impulse theme
  • Whether color swatches can represent different watch styles within a collection (rather than traditional color variants)
  • How to add band style variants with different pricing from the default option
  • Whether to create separate products or use variants for items with different band prices

Current Setup:
The user references a screenshot showing their existing layout where color swatches represent different versions of a watch series, with options to choose between bracelet or NATO strap that affect pricing. They want to replicate this design using Shopify 2.0 metafields while accurately tracking band quantities and pricing.

Note: The post contains corrupted/reversed text that makes portions difficult to parse completely.

Hi All,

I am updating our website to a Shopify 2.0 theme- Impulse, Clean version. I want to know how to set up color swatches via the new metafields feature. We currently are running a 3rd party app for this.

I also want to know how if I can set up a collection of 4 watches, the color swatch variants would be the style of the watches within that collection, and if I can also have a variant for band style with a different price than the default. Or do I need to make a new product with the different band variant to show accurate pricing and track band quantities accurately.

Below is a screen shot of our current layout where the color swatches are the different versions of this watch series. There is the option to choose the watch on a bracelet or NATO strap that changes the price. I want to know if I can mirror this design using metafields in the new Shopify 2.0. Thanks!
