I’m posting from a newly created account specifically for the purpose of requesting a review of another Community account which is currently suspended.
The suspended account username is:
scode
When attempting to log into that account, I receive the message:
“Account suspended: Violated - No AI abuse”
I did not receive any suspension notification or email explaining the reason for the action, so I’m hoping to better understand what happened and request a review of the account.
After reflecting on the recent activity on the account, I believe the suspension may have been triggered because I had been actively participating in discussions where I thought my newly published Shopify app could help merchants solve specific problems. In some cases I likely reused similar wording or explanations across replies, which I understand may have appeared repetitive or promotional from a moderation perspective.
I want to clarify that I’m a genuine developer and Shopify app creator, not an automated or abusive account, and my intention was genuinely to help merchants where relevant.
I completely understand the need to maintain quality within the Community and I’m more than happy to adjust how I participate moving forward. I’d sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have the account reviewed and, if appropriate, reinstated.
Posting from a second account to appeal the first one can sometimes make things look worse from a moderation view, so be a bit careful there. But your read on why it happened is probably right, reusing similar wording across multiple replies to point people toward your own app reads as promotional or automated, even when your intent was genuinely to help. The community is strict about that, and AI generated or templated responses aren’t supported at all.
For the actual review, your best bet is reaching out directly to the community moderators. Tag or message @jasonh or @Jacqui, or email communitymailer@shopify.com explaining the situation honestly, much like you did here. Own the repetitive replies, clarify you’re a real developer, and say how you’ll participate differently going forward. That kind of straightforward accountability tends to land better than arguing the suspension. Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks for the advice, appreciate you taking the time.
Just to clarify, reaching out from a second account was actually suggested by Shopify Support as the only available method, since I didn’t receive any email notification about the suspension and have no way to log in to the original account to appeal or participate. So it wasn’t ideal, but it was the only path available.
That said, your suggestion to reach out to the community moderators directly is helpful, I’ll do that. I’m happy to own the repetitive replies and explain how I’ll approach things differently. It was genuine intent to help, but I understand how it could have been flagged.
I’d really appreciate it if you could take a look at my original post above. My Shopify Community account (scode) was suspended, and I’m hoping to understand what happened and get it resolved.
I didn’t receive any notification about the suspension, so I had no way to appeal through the original account, Shopify Support suggested I reach out this way using a secondary account.
Is there anything else I can do on my end to move this forward? Happy to provide any details you need.
I tried emailing the suggested email account, which said:
Please note that this inbox is no longer monitored. For assistance, please log in to your account at community.shopify.com and send a direct message to @communityteam. We will reply during our regular business hours. Thank you.
So hopefully the [email removed] mention above gets some attention too.
Hi there @scode_au
Such a suspension is usually caused by patterns of behavior that appear automated or spammy, such as comparable messages circulating in multiple threads. Even if the person means well, the automated systems may flag them for using promotional language repeatedly.
The above is probably the best you can do as a next step, review your previous responses and rewrite your future ones to be more specific to the context. Always start with merchant issues, mention apps as a very distant second option. Do not respond with the same-formatted answer on multiple topics.
If the account is reinstated, transitioning to a highly customized, non promotional type of interaction usually goes a long way towards avoiding future flags and building trust signals in the community.
