Topic summary
A user is locked out of a Shopify store they want to cancel and cannot access the email associated with it, leading to unwanted recurring charges. They also accidentally made a payment on a second store they wish to keep but also lack email access.
Recommended steps to cancel the unwanted store:
- Visit accounts.shopify.com/store-login and enter the email shown on bank statements to receive password reset links
- Navigate to Settings → Plan → Cancel subscription to stop future charges
- If email access is unavailable, contact Shopify Support directly by phone (US: +1-888-746-7439, UK: +44-808-189-0953) with transaction details and card information for verification
To regain access to the desired store:
- Use the same store-login process with that store’s email address
- Update the email under Settings → Users and permissions after logging in
- Support can help change the email on file after verifying ownership
Immediate action:
- Contact the bank to block or dispute charges if Shopify resolution takes too long
The discussion remains open with no confirmation the user resolved their access issues.
Hello @Tknow16
- Head to accounts.shopify.com/store-login and enter the email your bank statement shows for the charge.
- Shopify will send you a list of any stores tied to that address with password‑reset links.
- Log in, then go to Settings → Plan → Cancel subscription. That will immediately halt future charges.
- If you don’t get that email because you no longer have access to the address on file.
- Your next move is to call Shopify Support directly. In the U.S. dial +1 (888) 746‑7439, in the UK it’s +44 808 189 0953, or find your local number at help.shopify.com/en/questions#/contact.
- Explain you can’t log in but need to close that store and stop the recurring payment.
- Have the transaction date, amount, and last four digits of your card handy so they can verify and cancel the subscription for you.
Once that’s done, you’ll be free of the unwanted store. To regain access to the other store you actually want, use the same store-login flow with its email address.
If you’ve lost access to that email, you can update it under Settings → Users and permissions after you log in. That should get you back in control and stop the unexpected charges.
Hello @Tknow16 that sounds incredibly frustrating, especially if you’re being charged for a store you can’t access and can’t get proper help. Here’s how to take control of the situation right now:
-
Cancel the Store You Don’t Want to Be Charged For
If you can log into the admin of the unwanted store: -
Go to Settings > Plan.
-
Scroll down and click “Deactivate store”.
-
Follow the prompts to confirm cancellation.
If you can’t access the admin and don’t have access to the email:
. Contact Shopify Support directly here:
https://help.shopify.com/en/support
Steps:
. Click “Log in” (if you can).
. If you can’t log in, click “Continue without logging in.”
. Choose “Account” > “Store Access” or “Billing”.
. At the end of the prompts, select “Chat with us” or “Email support.”
You’ll need to verify ownership, like:
. Last 4 digits of the card charged
. Store name and URL
. Recent billing amount
. Any recent order ID (if applicable)
- Access Your Other Store (the One You Want to Keep)
If you don’t have access to the email, but still want to keep the store:
. Tell Shopify Support you need to update the email address on file.
. They’ll verify you (see info above) and help update the account email so you can log in and manage it.
- Stop Further Payments Immediately
. Call your bank and block or dispute the charges if necessary.
. Tell them you’re being charged for a subscription you can’t access.
. While Shopify can refund in some situations, your bank can put a stop to recurring withdrawals faster.
