I’m looking for some ideas and ideally examples of Shopify stores that have a comprehensive quoting process.
The brand sells kitchen worktops. They are B2C. Currently they allow customers to build up quotes for worktop based on a number of criteria, such as…
Type of quartz
Multiple lengths and widths of sections of quartz
Length of finished edge
Type of finished edge
Number of unfinished holes
Number of finished holes
Draining rack grooves etc.
At the end of the process, it surfaces an online quote/price, emails that to the customer, and allows them the option to proceed with that purchase if they wish. The system would need to store multiple quotes for different products and allow them to proceed if they wish.
They will also need the ability to purchase the product immediately if they want to instead of getting a quote.
yes – this kind of “build a complex quote, then optionally buy” flow is absolutely doable on Shopify.
For kitchen worktops, the usual pattern is: use a product options/configurator setup to collect all the details (material, section sizes, edges, cut-outs, grooves, etc.) as line item properties, let the customer see a live price on the product page, then push that full configuration into a quote instead of straight to checkout. From there, the quote can be emailed, saved in a dashboard, and converted to an order later so the customer can either approve/pay or come back and re-quote a different configuration. You can also keep the normal “Buy now” path alongside the “Request a quote” button for people who are ready to purchase immediately.
On my side I’ve had good results using a “request a quote + hide price” app that reads all line item properties and turns them into structured quotes (for example, Request a Quote & Hide Prices on the Shopify App Store), so I didn’t need to build a totally custom quoting system from scratch.
For detailed, customizable quotes like this, a Shopify Request a Quote app is a great fit. It lets you build a custom form for all the worktop criteria, generate and store multiple quotes, email pricing to customers, and let them accept the quote and convert it to an order. You can still offer a “buy now” option alongside quoting.
It’s an easy way to manage complex pricing while keeping everything inside Shopify.
Hi Kate,
Your quoting flow is definitely achievable, and I’ve built similar advanced configurators and pricing tools before for custom products. For your use case, the best approach would be a Shopify private app built specifically for your store — this lets you have full control over the multi-step options, pricing logic, saving multiple quotes, email generation, and converting quotes into draft orders or direct checkout.
Here are a few examples of my previous work, including complex configurators and custom builders:
If you’d like, I can build your quoting system as a clean multi-step UI, or even upgrade it into a full 3D configurator, where customers can adjust materials, sizes, edges, holes, grooves, etc., and see pricing update instantly — all integrated as a private Shopify app tied directly to your store.
Happy to review your setup and show you the best approach whenever you’re ready.
