Hi! I just launched my skincare brand but I’m a bit confused about setting up my shipping strategy.
Specifically, I’m unsure about:
- Choosing the right shipping method: Should I use flat-rate or calculated shipping? How do I balance cost and customer satisfaction?
- Optimizing packaging: What’s the best way to package my products to minimize shipping costs while ensuring they arrive safely?
- Offering free shipping: When is it beneficial to offer free shipping, and how can I incorporate it into my pricing strategy?
I have looked at many articles, blogs etc but now I’m looking for individual guidance to help me navigate these challenges. Does anyone know of any workshops, or group or one-on-one coaching services that can provide step-by-step assistance?
Thank You!
@thesheaparlor it’s a great thing to discuss something like here coz there is no right or a wrong way to implement these things for your business. It greatly depends on your business, products, customer base, and the shipping carriers you are using to ship products.
Flat-rate shipping methods are generally simple and easy for customers to understand. They can be a good choice for small, lightweight products or if you want to offer a consistent shipping cost. However, opting for calculated shipping rates provides more accuracy and can be more cost-effective for heavier or larger items. It can help you recover shipping costs and avoid losing money on orders. The idea should be to balance cost and customer satisfaction. To do so, you can try your hand at offering various shipping options. You can provide customers with choices, such as standard, expedited, and overnight shipping with a mix of flat rate shipping for, say Standard, and offer carrier rates for quicker deliveries.
Regarding packaging, I would recommend using high-quality recyclable packaging, if you are not going with the carrier packaging. This can help prevent damage and reduce the need for returns, which can save you money in the long run. One thing to note here is the carrier packaging comes with a flat shipping fee which can be cost effective for larger orders.
Offering free shipping on orders over a certain amount can incentivize customers to spend more. You can segregate this into these segments such as:
- Offer free shipping on first-time orders
- Offer free shipping on orders over a certain amount to increase the average order value
- If your competitors offer free shipping, you may need to offer it as well to compete with them
Keep in mind while incorporating free shipping into your pricing strategy to increase product prices accordingly. You can use a carrier shipping calculator to determine the cost of shipping and adjust your prices accordingly.
