A Shopify store owner discovered their contact form wasn’t sending emails after a customer complained about no response.
Initial troubleshooting recommendations include:
Verifying email settings in Settings > Notifications and Settings > General
Checking contact form code files (contact.liquid or contact-form.liquid) for proper configuration
Inspecting spam/junk folders
Using browser developer tools to examine form data transmission
Considering third-party contact form apps as alternatives
Confirming the store isn’t in development/trial mode
Code issue identified:
The original poster found a code error in their Shopify theme. A suggested fix involved modifying the form tag syntax, though this was noted as unlikely to be the root cause of the email delivery problem.
Resolution discovered:
A later participant found that contact form submissions were being delivered but filtered into “All Mail” rather than the inbox. The solution involved categorizing the sender to automatically route future emails to the primary inbox.
Status: The discussion appears resolved with a workaround for email filtering, though the underlying delivery configuration may still need attention.

Our Shopify store’s contact form is not working. It just won’t send emails anywhere. This was brought up by a customer who was frustrated that we did not respond.
Is there troubleshooting steps I can take to try and fix this?
If your Shopify contact form isn’t working, follow these troubleshooting steps:
Verify Email Settings: Go to Settings > Notifications in your Shopify admin and ensure that the email address listed in the “Send order confirmations to” field is correct. Additionally, check Settings > General and make sure the email addresses listed under “Store contact” and “Customer email” are accurate. These are the addresses where contact form submissions should be sent.
Check Form Setup: Look for files like contact.liquid or contact-form.liquid in your theme. Ensure the form’s action attribute is set to /contact and that the method is post. Confirm that the form includes the necessary fields such as name, email address, and message.
Inspect Spam Folder: Sometimes, contact form submissions might end up in your spam or junk folder. Make sure to check there.
Review Server and Hosting Settings: Verify if there are any filters or restrictions in your email server or hosting settings that could be blocking the emails.
Examine Form Data Transmission: Use your browser’s developer tools to inspect the network tab when submitting the form. Check if the data is being sent to the correct endpoint and in the correct format.
Consider Contact Form Apps: If the issue persists, try installing a contact form app from the Shopify App Store. There are several free options available that might resolve the issue.
Check Shopify Plan: In some cases, contact forms and subscription pages may not work correctly while the store is in development mode or on a trial plan.
If you’ve covered all these points and the issue still isn’t resolved, contacting Shopify support might be your next best step.

Hi I am super late to the party but just had the same issue. I figured out that the contact form submission goes to our mail. However we must select the All mail option instead of inbox. It is not in the junk mail. Once you go to all mail category, you must categorize the sender. It will then move all emails to inbox automatically. If you are using an iPhone, you would slide left on the email, press more, select categorize sender, and place in inbox or primary. I hope this helps. I will also post the link to my new business. I would appreciate any support https://seekingthekingdom.myshopify.com. Have a blessed day!
